1. | Click here for the Knowledge Network Library Search page. | |
2. | Use the 'Sign in' link at the top-right of the page, and enter your Athens details. If you don't yet have an Athens log-in, then click here to register with the Knowledge Network. |

3. | Click the drop-down menu arrow at the end of the search box, and select, ‘Articles’. | ![]() |
4. | Type the known article details in the search box, and press the search icon. | ![]() |
Tip: type the author’s name and the first few words from the title; normally this will provide enough information to retrieve the article. | ||
5. | Results are then displayed. If the article you are searching for does not display, then use the options in the left-hand pane to refine your search (Author, Journal Title, etc). |

6. | If you still can't find the article you are looking for, or if there are too many search results, try using the Advanced Search option (beside the search box on the Library Search screen). | ![]() |
7. | If these options do not help then try selecting the ‘Tweak my results' / 'Expand My Results’ option (underneath the search box). | ![]() |
This will expand the results to include those that may not be covered by the Knowledge Network subscription. |

8. | If the article appears with a 'Full text available' link, then follow the link to see which provider(s) holds the journal. |

You will also be shown any holding information and notes. For example, access may only be available for selected years. | ||

9. | Click the relevant provider link, and after entering your Athens details, you will be directed to the full text of the article.
If at any time you are asked to pay for an item, please look around the publisher’s website for “Login”, “Athens", or "OpenAthens”, and re-enter your Athens details for access to the NHS Scotland subscription. |
