Communities of Practice are part of The Knowledge Network www.knowledge.scot.nhs.uk
They allow you to create small websites and to gather together colleagues from across Scotland.
They can be open access, or limited to specific members (authentication is by Athens). The content can be as basic or advanced as you like.
You will have to plan for your CoP: who will be the administrators, where will the content come from, how and when will it be updated. CoPs that are left to fend for themselves will not be well used. Ones that are managed, have a specific purpose and encourage engagement, will thrive.
NES Digitial will help you set up your CoP, and there is training, after that though you will need to support it.
Here are a few examples for you to look at.
This is a test one - http://www.knowledge.scot.nhs.uk/cancer-care.aspx
Here is one that is currently active and open http://www.knowledge.scot.nhs.uk/clear.aspx
